You only need to take the patent bar once. A couple of years ago the USPTO announced plans to have regular re-certification tests, but I haven’t heard anything about that recently. Either you pass or you fail the patent bar. If you pass you don’t take it again. No one cares about your score. If you have no background on patent law, I suggest going to a book store or library and reading two or three general books about patents and the patenting process intended for the layman. That will make your actual studying much easier, because the books will provide some context. There is an ongoing debate in this forum about which study guide is best.
