I'm a fresh bio Ph.D and am thinking about leaving bench. I just got an offer from the tech transfer office in my Univ. and want to use this period of time to evaluate what I want to do next: law school or tech transfer. Just out of curiosity--I know most of you guys are determined for law school, but for anyone who had ever thought/experienced tech transfer--any reason why not to stay in tech transfer field?? Any input is appreciated!

Your salary isn't going to be as high as what an attorney could make in a large firm. But there are certainly positives in tech transfer: better hours, less stress, etc. It's more MBA type work than legal. Just curious, how did you land a job offer in tech transfer without experience in that field?

I worked in the tech transfer office of my school while in law school. The University of Washington had a lot of IP related work. It was ok, but in the end it's not nearly as interesting as the patent work I do now.
