Good Morning, Can anybody suggest some good Career Fairs to attend in and around the New York City area for jobs in the IP Legal Industry? I appreciate your response. Regards

Jd, I know AIPLA has a job fair. I think it is at the end of Sept. Not sure of the location, but I believe it is in Chicago. Check the AIPLA web site. Michael

Thanks for you response. I did speak to someone at AIPLA regarding my interest in participation, however, I being a graduate with a technical background (not a patent agent and/or going to law school as of now) cannot participate according to the requirements of the fair. The sad part is that there will be recruiters there who might be interested in candidates like me (for entry-level patent agent trainee/technical specialist positions) but because I do not meet the requirements, I cannot participate. This I understand is the biggest and the best job fair in the IP industry. However, this is ruled out. I am not sure what other options are out there. Regards.

There are two big IP job fairs and then smaller regional ones: AIPLA Job Fair (last day of their annual meeting in Washington, DC -- this year October 29, 2005) Loyola Patent Law Interview Program in Chicago, IL (end of July or early August) AIPLA requires that you are a member and since you do not work in the patent field nor are a law student there is no membership option for you. You could try taking and passing the so-called patent bar. Then, you would qualify for the fair through patent agent membership. Loyola is geared towards law students and with the screened resume process, your resume most likely would not qualify for an interview even if you could participate. I do not know if they would let you participate but forms are due by mid-February. See http://www.luc.edu/law/academics/special/center/intellectual/patent_law. shtml for more information. Then, there are the smaller regional fairs. SFIPLA puts one on, but you have to be a member and/or be a student at a participating school. For NYC, I would contact the NYIPLA and ask them about job fairs or potential networking opportunities. http://www.nyipla.org/
