Aside from the obvious 'Assignee' section on an issued patent/published app, is there another way to find out who owns a particular patent?

Is it possible to check with the USPTO to confirm a second assignment or later assignment?

There's this:
http://assignments.uspto.gov/assignments/q?db=pat

I thought it appears on PAIR as well, but I can't find it right now.

It's only in private PAIR, not public PAIR.
