You should first consider what is important to you in the negotiations. Will this be an ongoing relationship with the licensees? Exclusive license? Possibility of additional licenses down the road? Possible areas to investigate include: 1. Level of experience of the attorney, especially in the area of licensing. 2. Some knowledge of the basic technology might be helpful. So would some knowledge of the business environment in which the technology operates. 3. If there's an international component, some experience with international agreements. 4. The attorney's ability to understand your goals and objectives. 5. The degree of rapport between yourself and the attorney. I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.
