Any users of EPAS out there - the USPTO electronic assignment recordation portal/system?

I have been asked to figure how it works so my workplace can start utilizing this tool. It is all very straightforward but for some reason the assignment division prefers the tiff file format. Any .pdf file submitted to EPAS is converted to tiff and resulting image quality is horrendous. I tried generating a tiff from my .pdf  and submitted the tiff file but then I started getting page-size errors in addition to poor image quality.

Any suggestions?

In my quest for an answer to this seemingly easy-to-solve  issue, I first called the EBC. "No, we don't support that, call the assignment division."

Assignment division: "This is a technical issue, you will have to call tech support."

Tech support: "This is an assignment division issue, talk to them."

Back to the assignment division: "Send an email to epas@uspto.gov."

Sent an email to that address on Thursday, no response yet.

Wait for the collective groan from the peanut gallery....

Linux has great PDF to TIFF (and back again) conversion tools.  You can specify resolution, compression codec, etc.

While I have no hint for the Mac users out there, those beholden to MSFT can use a C Shell (like Linux/Unix/*nix command line) called cygwin.  If you google cygwin, you should find it.

If you're asked for what packages you like, be sure to get all those pertaining to PDF, Postscript (ps), and TIFF.  xpdf is probably a good package to have.  ImageMagick is a good converter too.  A simple command would be "convert -density 200x200 assignmentxyz.pdf assignmentxyz.tif".  "convert" is part of ImageMagick.

Regards.

Mac users can convert PDFs to images, etc, by using Preview.  This is the same tool used to view PDFs.
