Can anyone detail possible incentives that could be included in a patent assignment agreement to encourage inventors to assign their respective rights to an invention to a corp? I can identify roalties or % of licensing but am curious about other possible incentives for inventors.

Other possible incentives might include a flat one time payment and for employees, assignment to the employing corporation might be a condition of employment.

For most corporate drones, it's as Isaac wrote – assignment to the employer is a condition of employment. If you accept the job, you agree to sign over the rights to any invention that may relate to the business of the corporation. According to the contract, it is irrelevant whether the invention was made on the inventor's own time or during working hours. Also the inventor gets a token $1 for each patent application assignment. Separately, there are bonuses for filing an application and for being granted a patent. These bonuses can vary from nothing to a few hundred dollars. Richard Tanzer

Larger organizations very often do the bonus route to encourage their inventors to become involved in patenting process and the total bonus can easily run into thousands of dollars. Additionally, there are companies that make custom plaques that often incorporate the 1st page of the patent on the plaque. These plaques are nicely made and I have seen them displayed in many a company - displayed by the company itself or by the inventor in their work-space. One example plaque company that came up on a google search: http://www.patentawards.com/

What if the company never had the employee sign an agreement as part of employment? Can the company force the inventor to sign an assignment agreement?
