Title: How to secure new business idea
Post by flipmode on Jan 17th, 2007, 8:27am
I am a new business owner and need to know if business ideas can be secured. My business idea is online related. I just want to safeguard my business from any close competition trying to clone my new services.

The business is a form of online rating/ranking related database, so I am sure compettition exists already to different degrees and topics. I just want to make sure, nobody could pop up in the future and claim ownership to my business idea or steal it from me as competition. Am I trying to secure to much? ;)

Is there a way to secure business terms used for my business in addition to securing the business idea mentioned above (e.g. secure terms such as "widget rating" or "widget rank") ?

Yes, I have one E-commerce business model filed.
It usually takes 5-6 years waiting queue
to examiner table.
The E-business patent is always costly and "not guarantee" will be issues.
Typical attorney fees (for filling & preparation only) range from 5K to 15K (expensive).
In addition, E-business IP is not protected in Europe & Canada.
If your biz methodology is obvious and not novelty (weak).
I suggest you to think twice.
