Assuming that you mean the "Disclosure document program" a significant disadvantage is that the PTO throws the material out after two years unless it is referenced in a patent application. Another disadvantage is that if it is so referenced, there is a loss of control of what material is included in the file wrapper. At best the disclosure document can be used to prove a date of conception, but whether or not it is useful depends on what gets filed. I don't see any huge advantages over a properly kept and witnessed inventor's notebook.
