This should cover the basics.
http://www.isrlaw.com/inventorFAQ.html

After that, you may have a more specific question we can help with.

Regards.

Ok I read the article and I have some questions here is a quote that my question is about.

If your idea is creative, like a writing, a painting, T-shirt designs, photographs, music, etc., you
prevent others from making unauthorized copies with copyright protection.  Computer
software can also be protected by copyright

Mine is one of these what next? how do I obtain a copyright? and will it protect my idea fully? Is a copyright expencive?

While it's not entirely clear from the organization of these topics in this forum, your question is appearing in the patents section.  I'd suggest posting your question in the copyright topics.

The bottom line is that copyright protection is automatic whenever you create something creative.  While it's not required, it's not a bad idea to put "Copyright (C) 2005 Wantsome.  All rights reserved." on your creative works.  There are good reasons to register your copyright, and it's not expensive (a few hundred dollars, I think).  I think you need registration before actually suing someone for infringement.  But I do patents, not copyrights, so someone in the copyrights forum could tell you more about that than I could.

Good luck.
