Looks like someone wrote a really cool script. Perhaps YaBB can benefit from one of those call-and-answer verifications involving a smeared image of text and a text-entry box.
I wonder if there's a newer version of YaBB with that as an option.....

P.S. Took a quick look at the YaBB forum and found this: http://www.yabbforum.com/community/YaBB.pl?num=1141918796 Don't see any mention of a "enter this smeared text" verification though. That would be nice, or something as effective.

Perhaps limiting the ability to post to members only is another option to consider.
I would think YABB probably already has that functionality..

I didn't. I'm just guessing that the posts come from a script that navigates YaBBB topics from the uniformity of the posts and the tendancy to find the same topics -- usually recently active ones -- in which to post. I have a little bit of experience with similar scripts but for legit purposes -- e.g., scraping for and downloading files uploaded to Yahoo! groups. I consider them legit because they use my real id/pwd combo to get in and I must be a member to the group if the group so requires.
In the boardmod.org link, search for "antibot" and you'll see exactly the thing in the xonder.de link. Tres kewl!

Heck, while the admin is upgrading YaBB, why not junk it altogether in favor of a more sophisticated but still free BB? I'd love to be able to subscribe to threads, for instance.
