I'm not saying that.  I'm saying a criminal record is unlikely.  But civil damages are at issue (that is, you will owe money if they find you liable for copyright infringement).  There are procedural rules you have to follow, and a lawyer will know how to follow them.  The lawyer will know how to make the right arguments... they are not intuitive things that you can make yourself.  For example, "I didn't know it was unauthorized" is usually not a defense.
 
On the other hand, it could be a fraud/scam.  If so, a lawyer would help you there too.
