P.O.W. logo copyrighted?

Hello,

I'm sorry to post an "is this logo copyrighted" post, but I cannot seem to find the information I'm looking for on the web. I hope someone here can help and/or point me in the right direction.

I'm designing a political satire/slogan poster for school and possibly for sale if people like them, and I'd like it to contain the POW logo. However, before I add it, I need to know if I'm violating any copyright by using and/or editing the Prisoner of War logo (the one you see on flags, shirts, etc). Is this logo public domain, or does the government somehow have it copyrighted? I've never heard of the government owning a copyright (is our money, flags, etc copyrighted?) but I'd like to make sure it 100% legal in the U.S., as the poster may not be well received by the current establishment.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I don't know you or your organization. However, before you go and do something that might not be in good taste, please take the time to know what that logo actualy means and represents. It is not political, and even though the military is a government entity, we follow orders, no matter what our point of view on the politics of those orders. That logo represents far more than many think. Unless you've experienced in some shape or form what the soldiers and their families went and are still going through today, yes today, from as recently as the Gulf, Afganistan and Iraq Wars; you might re-think the way you intend  on using it. Thank you.

This is a trademark issue, not one related to a copyright as you cannot register under copyright protection a logo, slogan or name brand.  Take this to the trademark forum.  Thanks.

Lyza, why can't a logo be "copyrighted"?

You're right. I need more sleep and then coffee.

Any idea why the login time says 10:43 rather than 10:18 when I posted?
