Hello,
 
I am writing about copyright of the Romanov family letters; as they passed away in 1917, I guess their copyright has expired; would that mean those letters are now in the public domain? or would the copyright go to their heirs? if anyone has information on this topic please post a reply!

As far as I can tell, unpublished material is protected by copyright in Russia for the life of the author plus a term of 70 years.  I can't find anywhere where this might have been extended in this case.
