Can a photographer copywrite an image of me?

I found a photogragh of myself on a photographers website, and he offered it to me for sale. does he own that image of me if I never signed a release form of any kind? The photo was taken in a public place, so I know I have no reasonable right to privacy, but the picture is of me and I would assume I own the rights to my face.

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Thanks,

DS

He owns the photograph.   It's possible that he does not have the right to display the photo publicly without your permission, but if he took the photo, he owns the copyright in it.   You don't own a copyright in your facial appearance.
