I think what Mr. Sonnabend means is that you can't use the sound recordings without permission from the copyright holder.  The music of Strauss (I assume you mean Johann) is in the public domain, you will just have to re-record it with your own musicians.  As for the gypsy music, again if it's traditional then it's in the public domain, you can use it if you re-record it.  If it was composed in the last, say, 80 years or so, then you will need the permission of the owner of the music, even if you choose to re-record it.
