P2P systems

Can anyone (very briefly) gimme an overview of the current situation regarding p2p systems? I've heard actions taken against KaZaA manufacturers (in the US and in the EU) have failed?...and the action against Grokster?

What are the risks we bear as end-users? I've heard very contradicting views on whether one would be liable of copyright infringement if one SHARES FILES or NOT SHARE FILES - any idea? (Also some recent development in Hong Kong regarding the p2p programme BT...)

Please enlight me. Much appreciated.

This article in today's San Francisco Chronicle provides a decent overview of the current P2P situation but probably will not answer all of your questions:

I think it is safe to say that you have nothing to worry about if you do not share files containing copywrited material via a P2P system.
