You cannot copyright the name of a band, and you would not want to do so if you could.

What you may want to do is federally register the name of your band as a trademark.

The basic steps are
Select an appropriate trademark
Make sure there are no prior interfering uses
Decide on what class or classes to register your make
Submit application and fees to trademark office.

You may need some assistance with the above steps.  An attorney who specializes in trademarks could assist you.

Your quesition really belongs in the trademark forum.

Dear Rwings,

There must be some interstate use for a Federal Registration. A proposed use application can reserve the mark for a time.

If you have got any value it pays to protect it by finding an intellectual propety lawyer you can trust.

i am in the UK, and I came up with a name for my band. I have now been kicked from the band, without any good reason, and was wondering if I can register the name as my trademark as it was my idea?
They have also taken a song I wrote lyrics to, and changed the lyrics slightly, so to stop me from singing the song. Can I do anything about that?
