How much change is needed?

Hi all.

Ive searched all over the net and cant find an answer to my questions so i thought id try pickin your collective brains.
Ive been told that if you change somthing 15% you are no long in violation of copyright laws.
im going to add 2 links to illustrate my question.
In the before picture. the character has 4 things that are central to the story of her character, tears, red hair, chains, and a rose

Before:

After:

if i were to produce art that had the same look/style but not contain those main elaments. would i be clear of any copyright infringments?
I dont mean making a copy of a piece and leave out those defining parts but more allong the line of doing a work that mimics that artists style.
thanks for any help guys.

I think that is an urban myth, I've heard all different sorts of percentages about changing something so as not to be guilty of infringement.

If you are copying, even if you are changing then you are IMHO guilty of copyright infringement.

Im not copying a particular work.
The prob is this. Ive been accused of copying a popular artist because our styles are very simular.
For example. lets say our faces look allot alike but the clothes, hair style and color, back ground, pose and so forth are differant. where do i stand legally.
I dont want to change my artistic style (not that i think i can) just to keep from being sued.
thx guys

Dear Tony,
If you have to "change" you are in deep trouble. The information is free and usable.
