I took some photos while watching the russian circus in Moscow.

Can I show them on my personal website?

Dear Mr. Thorsson,

Without taking professional responsibility, it is my belief that even if you were prohibited from doing so, that you have a right to copyright what you have done. My gut says there is very little limit on what you can do as long and you don't misrepresent.

If you are going to commercialize, it might be worth looking into it. I feel a bit ashamed that I cannot feel a pat answer.

Why not?

Was there an announcement at the begining of the performance stating no cameras or recording equipment?

This is for a personal website - just to say 'hey folks look where I've been'?  With no commerical content I don't see why you couldn't.

Look at all the people who go to Disneyland, take pictures of the exhibits, shows, etc and post their vacation pictures on-line.

Dear tabberone,

You have smarts that amaze me as to your legal insight. My vision of what I read is that a picture on a website is viewable by the public.

If I represented the Moscow Cirus and saw such pictures on a website, I might look into the public display by a member of the audience. Were it a news item would be one thing. Were it from the street is another.

I don't have a pat answer in my head at this moment but from the web owner's point of view it may be asking for trouble. I'm not going to research the situation.
