Ex Employee Now Competing

I own and medium sized software development and hosting company my ex chief of technology has left and started a firm that is providing a service identical to mine. To do this he needed to create a technology platform that would be able to provide the same functionality. So far he has not attempted to sell directly to our current customers but he is treading close.
He claims that although his technology provides the exact same service its completely different.

I'm looking for a attorney that can help me understand what recourse I have.

Thanks

It's not exactly clear from your fact pattern why you feel you have recourse against your previous employee.  Nevertheless, I suspect that at least some of your questions are a matter of state law (e.g., contract law).  If so, you should contact an attorney in your state.
