But for some things you don't need a license.  ie: the use of their already licensed fabric to make items.

That's why I was curious as to what he wanted to do.

any thoughts/help on

(1) the standard (if there are) economics for licensing for trading cards.
(2) do you have to strike a deal/pay both the league and the players associations?
(3) are the leagues open to new licensees for trading cards?

thanks

For all NFL Licensing info, contact Jennifer Gray at (212) 450 2000  (be sure to tell the answering operator that you need to speak with NFL Licensing).

For all MLB Licensing info, call 212-485-3444 and ask for License Request.

Both numbers in New York, New York

Many of you asked about using NFL/MLB logos.  For your information, reproduce without any written consent or license is strictly prohibited!  So if you plan to use the logo or whatso, you must have license to print NFL/MLB and its team logo.

Reproducing without license will result in "Cease and Desist" and you will be asked to reimburse all of the profit you made using the logo.

Licensing, unfortunately, can be quite expensive and then they expect to have some commission.  Last time I spoke with NFL about using their logo and team's logo for the forum, and they said it would be $3,000 for one year even if I am not making any profit.  And there is guidelines I must follow for editorial purpose, and someone from the NFL must have moderator privilege so he can edit/change any information they feel might affect NFL Image.

Hope this help!

How does licensing work for minor league teams and colleges?  Is it granted by each individual establishment?  Thanks in advance.

You might want to contact the owner of the sports logo to inquire about how to license their logo.

regarding licensing through the NFL, what if you're not selling a product but just referencing the NFL team names in a website that is designed around NFL teams?  any thoughts.

Minimum Requirements. In order for your unsolicited proposal to be considered for the NFLP licensing program, your company MUST:

a.              Have a minimum of three years experience in manufacturing and distribution;
b.              Be a manufacturer, NOT solely a middleman or distributor;
c.              Have the ability to pay 100% of minimum royalty guarantee upon execution of a license agreement (typically about $100,000 per year) and be able to generate sales sufficient to meet the minimum royalty guarantee on a yearly basis;
d.              Maintain from a licensed and admitted insurance carrier with a rating not less than A-VIII from an A.M. Best-rated insurance company a Comprehensive Commercial General Liability policy in an amount of Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000.00) per occurrence and Six Million Dollars ($6,000,000.00) in the aggregate; and
e.              Be in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and, where applicable, international rules and regulations, including all applicable labor laws.
