Reading all this legal stuff about domain names and trademarks, and getting close to an answer to my particular question, but impatient and overwhelmed, I decided it was time to just start a new topic. Sorry if it repeats what's already here; there's just so much! The question: If Y-A-H-O-O.com were available, and I registered it, what sort of legal ramifications am I looking at here?

Thank you for your inquiry. Let me set up a hypothetical which closely resembles my particular case: I want to sell elegant boats and yachts, let's say. Can I use e-b-a-y.com?

Your hypothetical may be one in which you'd be allowed to use the domain in question. That's not to say ebay wouldn't come after you legally and make your life a bit difficult. The key inquiry (although not the only inquiry) in conflicting domain registration is good faith/bad faith registration. - Jeff

It's not a good idea to build your online empire and having the risk to get it taken away by the owner of the trademark.
