The Indian patent office may have a similar site.

Okay, so I have reviewed the information from the patent website and I still don't know if my idea is patentable.  It is not a machine but an idea for a made for TV competition.  According to copywrite law, all someone would have to do is alter my idea slightly and they would not be infringing on a copywrite.  Aside from hiring an attorney what is a body to do?

Your idea is hypothetically patentable.  Well, technically, your idea isn't patentable, but the "invention" resulting from it may be.  The "invention" hypothetically can be a method for orchestrating a specific game show or what not.  If that makes sense.
 
Also, accoring to copyright law, no one would have to alter your idea or invention at all to avoid infringement.  They just wouldn't be able to copy your exact description of it.
