Can someone claim copyright on a translation when the original author has resigned copyright of their work?
Here's a quote by the original author:
"At the present time my dear brothers and forever, I resign and I have resigned, and I will continue resigning, to the copyrights. The only thing that I wish is that these books are sold in cheap form, within reach of the poor men, all those that suffer and cry! That the most unfortunate citizen can obtain these books, with the few cents that take between their pockets ! That is all ! In fact, I do not have any income, I do not demand anything in exchange for my work whoever wants to publish them, let him publish for the benefit of suffering humanity."
