: Where is the best reference for information about copywrighting original music? The best reference is a professional Intellectual Property Lawyer. There is very much that can be done without a lawyer. One can often succeed in Registering a Patent, Trademark or a Copyright and superficially save money. It's like performing an operation on yourself using Gray's Anatomy. The reason lawyers stay in business is that, "doing it", does not necessarily mean that the legal act performs the legal result that is desired. Even lawyers have to use their judgement and opinions will differ, at least based upon different views of the law. You can go to the Copyright Page of this Forum and get an enormous amount of information. The law is like a computer manual. The answers may all be there but one must KNOW how to properly use them. Saving money is nice but doing that may just get you a worthless Icon. Don't kid yourself, unless you go on to law school and learn how to use and view the law. Just going to law school only teaches how to use the law as a tool. You don't come out a whole as an intellectual property lawyer like, Athene came out of the head of Zeus. M.
