: : : If I copy and paste a copyrighted section of text from a subscription bases news website, copy the name of the website and the author and then use that text in a for-profit manner, is it legal?

: : : Thank you for any insight.

: : A copyright protects the mode of expression. A trademark protects a symbol as applied to goods or services. Censorship would stop you.

: I may need to clarify my situation better. I use 20 resources (newspaper websites, theme-based news websites, etc.; Some of the before mentioned are free and some are subscription based) to collect individual snippets, articles, reports, etc. and then e-mail those collected pieces of text to people who don't have the time to peruse all of those resources for the same theme oriented information. My service (currently is to 10 friends and family members and I don't charge $)has been greatly received so I thought I may try selling a subscription fee to anyone else who may be interested in receiving this collected info. I would always note where the text came from and who wrote it in every communication. Is this legal as long as I reference the source?
: Title 17 section 117 makes it sound like using this collected info for "news reporting" "is not an infringement of copyright"

: Thank you for your service!

Dear Blake,
If I represented some that you were competing with, I'd look for a way to get you. I'm not going to do the research now but I feel queasy about what you say you do. Even if there is no violation, if you were sued IT WOULD COST.
