: I still do not understand. Example: If I find a copyrigthed black and white photo from 1950's and I use that photo to create almost identical (or slightly changed) image in a shape and form of an painting in oil on canvas (completely different medium and vibrant in colors that is also subjected to personal style and artistic expression), and then I make limited edition prints of my paintings in order to sell them for profit, is that legal or illegal? Please keep on mind that such photos are in a way historical facts, resources and window in the old times for most of us who weren't even born when some of those historic events (that we would like to paint)took place. Thank you very much in advance!
