: : : what are the procedures to copywrite my music recordings and the name of my act. also are there any fees? and what is publishing all about. another question would be, how long does this whole process take? Dear Mr. Duaghton, Sound recordings can have their records registered and be entitled to statutory royalties for the use of the music. The Official fee is small. A service mark can be registered for the name of an act. It would be wise to have a search to know if the name is properly available. The Official Fee is a few hundred bucks. Obtaining the registration usually takes about a year and a half. A searh is advisable to see if the name is available. Copyrights usually take months to receive the registration certificate. The official fee for rush service is about $500. M.
