: I'm curious about copyright violation in relation to the various video clips available on e.g. gamespot.com.
: (GameSpot might have special rights, but this is more of a general question)

: If you use a video camera to record a computer game being played, what can one do/not do with this video.

: A computer game is an interactive entertainment form.
: A film is a passive entertainment form.

: How is this in relation to other games like chess, trivia, solitaire, etc. Althoug these games are so old that noone can have copyrgihts, filming someone playing chess could surely not be a copyright issue?
: Would this be the same if the game filmed was copyrighted?

: Can a video recording of any game/computer game be distributed. Gamespot charges a member fee, wich enables you to download the video clips.

You may take video of a game, it is not illegal. Since you are not copying the game, all you are really doing is becoming an advertisement for the game. There is no interactivity in your video. It is a good idea to give copyright information, however.
