Since I am new to this "publishing arena" I am not really sure how it works. I realize that I might have to spend some money to earn some money. But, why should I spend money unnecessiarily if I don't have to. How can it be said that all the information contained within the journal is copyrighted when most or all of it is a matter of public record (family bible records, census, newspaper obits, old court house records, etc.). I do not want to use the editors actual written words, which is usually just the first page and does not contain anything of interest. Will I be infringing on his copyright if I only use the public record information contained within the journals? Marsha :) : : If you want to earn you have to spend what is necessary. The info is usable, the compiilations is probably protected if registered. Copyright infringers usually come up very short in the courts if they are caught.
