Copyright of Web Site text/photos[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Copyright Forum ] [ FAQ ] Posted by John on February 20, 2003 at 18:07:10: Are all web site contents automatically protected in terms of being copyrighted? (Contents being, photos taken by webmaster or staff, article written by web master of staff) Are photos placed on a web site, with copyright statement on the web site mentioning photos, protected from 'theft'? I have looked online, as I am researching copyright laws as they apply to web sites and I have come up sort of confused. It seems like I am finding that yes all creative works online are copyright protected. However if the webmaster/photographer does not file for a copyright or register for a copyright then the web site and web master are not protected in court if someone was so copy the photos and material. If this is true... does that mean that CNN and online newspapers register every photograph they put online and every photograph they put in the newspaper? Really Confused? When does a photo or story become lawfully copyright, where if someone copies it they can sue them in court for damages and for remediation. Thank you for all information, sort of arrived at a stall as for as my research is going. --John
