Copyright and song Lyrics[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Copyright Forum ] [ FAQ ] Posted by Michael C on January 13, 2003 at 20:27:13: Ok I have scanned the forums a bit and I have not found anything that actually asks this question so here I go: If I wanted to start a company that uses lyrics from songs in printed form to sell merchandise, but those lyrics used were not actually part of the name of the song or were very long in nature, do I have to pay royalties to use that material? e.g.--"hey little sister what have you done?", from Billy Idol's "White wedding". If I used only that line from the song in print on a product, do I have to pay royalties assuming that line is not in quotes on the product? Thanks, Michael.
