: In 1999 I wrote a novel for hire. Orginally it was to be simply a new version of an old 1911 sci fi novel. But instead I wrote an original story with original characters and settings (all my invention) as a sequel to the old sci-fi classic; this was copyrighted by the company that contracted me. It was an independent contractor work-for-hire arrangement. However, I have been advised recently that by law a novel cannot be copyrighted as work made-for-hire.
: As the company hasn't published my work now after more than 3 years, I would like to terminate and/or nullify the agreement. Does copyright law support my position?

Dear Kat H,
Without research, I don't think so. The key may be an analysis of the agreement.
