pen name

I am a screenwriter looking to find out information on a pen names or Pseudonyms. Do they have to be registered to use? Can I sell material with a pen name? I recently wrote a script out of my normal genre and would like to pitch it anonymously. If I use a pen name what do I have to do. As much information on this subject would be greatly apprecicated.
