You mnost likely have more experience in this field than I, but isn't copying those files to your hard disk the same as backing up your files on a floppy disk? Look at these game system emulations (Nintendo, Sega, etc.), their home sites claim that it is legal to back up owned games on your hard drive, so in effect shouldn't it be legal to back up your CD's on your hard disk?
