: I'm writing a musical for the university, but I wanted it to be somewhat like Mouline Rouge, in the music aspect, and use non-original lyrics and base music upon that used by the artists. I'm not sure what to do about copywrite laws or such. I know in the end, I too must have a copywrite, but till then, what do I do about the songs I wish to use? How do I get in contact with these big businesses about such things and is this a usual proposition in their field in which they would be willing to allow the use of the songs so freely (with minor costs and hopefully even less hassel)? Thank you.
