cuban songbook compilation[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Copyright Forum ] [ FAQ ] Posted by Barry Cox on May 18, 2002 at 05:54:37: I have compiled a songbook of Cuban songs (lyrics only) and am curious about how copyright laws affect the project. Some of the songs are "traditional" or in the public domain while others were written by and attributed to particular authors. I would like to distribute it free on the web but some people are telling me that someone may take it and publish it themselves for profit. Then there is the fact that it is Cuban material, and I wonder if copyright even exists in Cuba? I was wondering if I could just copyright the compilation but distribute it for free, to make sure no one tries to profit from it...
