: I would like to incorporate into my store the images of : various celebrities from the 1920's to now through : posters, photographs, magazine I collect and t.v appearances : on the grammys, oscars and such. : It will be used as part of the decoe of the store : Glamour is the setting. Is this illegal? : Do I need permission from every star or magazine, poster : company to hang them in my store. They are currently in my house. : Where do I stand?? Thanks Without taking professional responsibility for my gut feeling, what you have written seems without liability. There may be a cutting edge. The exact things you do may have to be considered. There is also the risk of litigation where interested groups my sue where what you have done is on the edge but not clearly actionable. The cost of defense even if you are wrong can be painful or beyond your means even if you are not guilty of any legal wrong. I am not aware of any legal abuse, but know that there are organizations such as for Elvis Presley that are very diligent in following up use by others without permission. This is one of the legal realities that make lawyers looked upon with distrust. M.
