The type of protection that you need will depend upon the nature of your toy. Often a patent is unwarranted and sufficient protection can be found in a less expensive trademark or copyright. In short, we would need more information about your toy before meaningful advice can be given. However, DO NOT post more information about your toy on this thread. Often people without ideas of their own will search threads like this one looking for ideas to steal.
