: I once was told that the covers of magazines are public domain and can be used without retrieving rights.
: I am making a documentary and my vision includes interspersing covers of famous magazines like Time, Newsweek, etc. throughout the film. Can I do that? Or are there certain restrictions I have to abide by?
Dear Ramy E,
I'm not going to research the question for you, but my gut says that if I represented a publisher, I would at least make you miserable. Now what that means in Reality CheckŪ terms is that even if wrong, the publisher can afford a lawyer and it would be expensive and tough on you.
