: if a stand-up comedy troupe has a certain name that i wanted to use for as a newspaper comic strip name (the comedy troupe and the comic strip are not related), would i be infringing on their name copyright if i used the same name for a comic strip? or does their name copyright only pertain to other comedy troupes?
If there were pat answers there would be no lawyers.
Firstly, if there is protection for the name it would be under the trademark law here, as a service mark.
Why are you looking at a possible risky sitution. You could be safer finding something original.
