: I am interested in publishing a picture from a book : published in the UK in 1956, but I am wondering what : (if any) copyright law would cover it. The publisher : is no longer in business. Thanks. There is a high risk of copyright infringment. Copyrights are entitled to international protection by treaties. A registration must be had in the US to enforce the UK rights. This may or may not have been done. The facts and law can be very complex. A simple solution might be to approach the UK publisher. It might cost less to make a small payment than to research your rights. M.
