We've been having a discussion on our dog agility list and I thought I'd look for an outside opinion. Dog Agility is a sport where dogs run a course of obstacles. The judge decides beforehand what the exact arrangment of obstacles will be and draws a diagram of the course. The question is whether the course is protected by copyright or not. The argument has been made that the arrangement of obstacles can be likened to an architechtural structure or artistic expression of some kind. My argument is that it is an idea, and is not protected, although the diagram itself would be.

What do you think?
