I am the co-author of a book on my families genealogy.
The 1st edition of our book came out in 1979 amd the
4th in 1999. It was copyrighted properly. The other
author passed away last year.

1)Since we have a joint copyright when will this book
become public domain ?

2)Public documents can not of course be copyrighted
but 95% of the relationships shown in our trees of
people born prior to the advent of the birth record
(1910-20) are based on our research conclusions, not
on public records.

This is the old sweat of the brow conumdrum. What
protection do we have? On whom does the burden of
proof lie should we find our work copied ?

I will be looking forward to your reply.
