: I developed an idea for a software application while employed by an intranet systems design company. I was hired to head the sales department. My application is outside of their general business activity but they guided me through the begining steps of development (through screen mock-up, no programing). They then took me off payroll and told me that I could "have" my information. I could start my own company and develop my product and in return my ex-employer would retain 20% of my company and would be paid to devolop this, and all future products. They refuse to assume any financial risk for the new company. : This arrangement does not sound fair to me, infact, I don't want them involved in any way in my new venture. What rights to the information do they have, and what is a reasonable agreement between two parties in a situation like this?
