The copyright law protects from the day of creation. Registration enables enforcement. Registration is best within three months of publication. Getting a registration in hand may take months. If there is a bonafide rush a registration can be had in a matter of days. The Goverment fee on that alone is about $500. The usual filing fee is $20.
