Arthur Auslander on June 30, 2001 at 04:36:10: Thanks for your time and advice. I appreciate it. : : : : I have a small trade publication that has been in existence for four years and recently heard a rumor that a "real" publisher was going to compete. How much of my magazine is protected? The concept and design as well as the contents or just the contents alone? : : : Dear Mr. James, : : : The information in the magazine is not protected, only the mode of expresssion. : : : M. Arthur Auslander : : I do have a copyright notice, but I am not sure if it only covers the contents. I also have a trademark on the name, so my concern is not necessarily for the protection of the name. How would I go about copyrighting the designs? : Dear Mr. James, : It is time for you to consult an Intellectual Property lawyer you can trust so that you can confirm that what you have done is correct and proper. : The designs are too abstract to know what you mean, what they are and how to protect them if, they can be protected. Save a buck and do it without a lawyer you can trust. If you screw up, then you really have cost and pain and suffering. : I don't trust doctors but I have managed to find ones that I can trust. My opthamologist, is not only good, he gives insight into other concerns and can recommend other doctors that can be trusted. My GP can say to me, I don't know, but if you are concerned you can go to another doctor, that I can even recommend if you want, who might take X rays and tests, "why don't you just wait and see if the pain goes away" : M.
