parodies on old masterpieces[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Copyright Forum ] [ FAQ ] Posted by Ka Botzis on June 19, 2001 at 11:31:54:
I am wanting to paint parodies of some of the old masterpieces (ex. Mona Lisa, Blue Boy, La Grand Odalisque and others). I would like to avoid any legal problems that may arise if I take this project on. If I paint the Mona Lisa just like it looks but put a pig's face instead of a human face am I infringing copyright or is this considered parody and okay? As an artist I respect the copyright laws. Any help on this? Thanks.
