Ownership of computer program

I do programming in my spare time, and I created an
MS Access program for a local company. Unfortunately,
we didn't sign a contract, and no mention was made
of ownership of the program. Now, the company feels
they have ownership of the program due to the fact
that they paid for it to be created; I feel I retain
ownership of the program.

Any thoughts?
